Tips for managing an offshore development team
I am currently the software development team leader for an in house team
in the UK. However, I am now tasked with managing a completely offshore
development team. They are based in Eastern Europe, so thankfully time
zone won't be too out of sync.
I am wondering if you have any advice for applying good software
development practices (e.g. Continuous Delivery, Scrum/ agile, TDD, peer
reviews... etc) to an offshore team.
I am aware of another similar question here: Tips for developing with a
remote team? And it gave some very useful info, especially on the tools to
employ for communication, which is key.
However I'm trying to come at this more from a management point of view,
say for example:
Any advice for applying good software development practices (e.g.
Continuous Delivery, Scrum/ agile, TDD, peer reviews... etc)?
How often to meet with the team face to face?
How best to apply scrum (e.g. daily stand ups, sprint plannings & demos
&reviews)?
What is the best management style (e.g. keep on top of them regularly i.e.
twice daily)?
How best to build their skill levels/ mentor them?
